If i Die Young Lyrics

If I Die Young lyrics

If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a, bed of roses
Sink me in the river, at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song

Uh oh, uh oh

Lord make me a rainbow, I’ll shine down on my mother
She’ll know I’m safe with you when she stands under my colors, oh and
Life ain’t always what you think it ought to be, no
Ain’t even grey, but she buries her baby

The sharp knife of a short life, well
I’ve had, just enough time

If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a, bed of roses
Sink me in the river, at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song

The sharp knife of a short life, well
I’ve had, just enough time

And I’ll be wearing white, when I come into your kingdom
I’m as green as the ring on my little, cold finger, I’ve
Never known the lovin’ of a man
But it sure felt nice when he was holding my hand, there’s a
Boy here in town says he’ll, love my forever
Who would have thought forever could be severed by
The sharp knife of a short life, well
I’ve had, just enough time

So put on your best boys and I’ll wear my pearls
What I never did is done

A penny for my thoughts, oh no, I’ll sell them for a dollar
They’re worth so much more after I’m a goner
And maybe then you’ll hear the words I been singin’
Funny when your dead how people start listenin’

If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a, bed of roses
Sink me in the river, at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song

Uh oh (uh, oh)
The ballad of a dove (uh, oh)
Go with peace and love
Gather up your tears, keep ‘em in your pocket
Save them for a time when your really gonna need them, oh

The sharp knife of a short life, well
I’ve had, just enough time

So put on your best boys and I’ll wear my pearls

If i Were A Boy

Today I want to talk about an issue that I spend a disproportionate amount of time considering: what I would wear if I were a boy. I say disproportionate because the likelihood of me ever becoming a boy, or even being ask what I would wear if I was a boy, is so tiny in comparison to how much thought I’ve given this over the years.

Of course, how I’ve answered this has usually been in relation to which men in popular culture I fancied the most at the time. Subsquently my answers in the past would have included reference to Kurt Cobain, Beck, Daniel Johns, Q Tip, Lenny Kravitz, MCA and Ad Rock (sorry Mike D), to name but a tiny fraction. Equally unsurprisingly, how I imagine I would dress as guy has always been a kind of male version of the tip I’m on at that time in real life, eg, when I was rocking an eclectic charity shopped look, that’s how I imagined I would source my clothing as a guy, and when I was more into a hiphop influence and street ware, similarly I pictured myself as a little English Beastie.
Naturally, my answer to the question today will also reflect both the points made above. These days I’d like to think I can form an opinion on a guy’s style without being so hormone driven, but it’s interesting to me to find that many of my male celeb inspirations haven’t changed too much.

If I were a 31 year old boy (had my birthday last week, more relaxed and less hangover-inducing than last year’s) in 2010, I don’t know if I would be into sewing my own wardrobe (see?! All you needed to do was wait and I’d bring my blog back round to sewing eventually). Presumably, I’d be exposed to similar experiences and social factors in I was a guy to the ones I’ve experienced as a girl, plus I’d be subject to the same creative yet practical genetics passed on from my folks, but as many sociologists such as Beyonce have pointed out, life’s just not the same for a boy, so who can say? I would however, put money on ‘Boy-me’ giving a crap about what he wears, and if he wasn’t making his own stuff, he’d probably have a cool sewing mate whipping up stuff on his behalf. Let’s see what I’d make/get made if I were a boy:

Reba McEntire

The 44th annual CMA Awards are tonight (November 10) and Nashville is buzzing about who will take home trophies in top categories, especially the most coveted award, Entertainer of the Year. Now, one former recipient of the Entertainer trophy is speaking out about the arguably surprising list of nominees this year.

"The only thing that I was disappointed in was the acts that have been headlining for so many years, they were not nominated," Reba McEntire says (quote via CNBC). "In particular, Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts. I would've assumed they would've been in that nomination before Zac Brown Band, Lady Antebellum and Miranda Lambert."

The Entertainer of the Year category, which also includes Brad Paisley and Keith Urban this year, is defined by the Country Music Association as being for "the act displaying the greatest competence in all aspects of the entertainment field," including "in-person performance, staging, public acceptance, attitude, leadership, and overall contribution to the Country Music image."

Reba, who won the Entertainer award in 1986, says the new crop of nominees shows a deliberate movement by CMA voters to move past tradition. "I have heard they are looking for a new regime, wanting to turn things around and to kind of mix up the shuffle," she adds. "Well, they definitely did. This has sure gotten everybody to talk about it."

Reba isn't the only artist questioning the criteria for CMA nods. Jason Aldean, whose last five singles landed in the top ten and enjoyed a sold-out tour earlier this year, was not only snubbed from the Entertainer category, but failed to garner a nomination at all. But he says, while he may understand the ins and outs of voting, he feels bad for the fans who don't know the specifics of the CMA regulations. "The average fan doesn't understand how all that stuff works and the industry probably doesn't want them to," Jason admits. "Fans watch a show and they get all up in arms because their favorite artist wasn't nominated or didn't win an award they were nominated for. Bottom line is it's not based on anything, man. It's based on who can rally the most troops for their guy, and sometimes this guy wins and sometimes that guy wins. It's just kind of the way it all shakes down."

Miranda, who received a record-breaking nine nominations, admits that she feels a bit unworthy of the highest accolade."I just feel like it's such a big deal to be nominated for Entertainer of the Year. I'm kind of weirded out that I got in there," she admits. "I just can't believe it, but I feel like when you actually win it, it's something that you really have to earn. I have done two headlining tours and they were both this year. You know, I feel like I still have a ways to go before I deserve to take that home."

Still, Miranda acknowledges that she is honored that all her hard work over the last five years did not go unnoticed, especially by such an influential group. "I thought it was just about ticket sales and the amount of people you play in front of, and it's not," she says. "It's a very broad award. It's about everything you've done in the past year, and I've definitely worked my butt off, so I guess I'm just settling into the fact that I'll have to accept it."

The CMA Awards will air live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena Wednesday, November 10 at 8:00 PM ET on ABC.
