NHRA

NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) can make way for a new champion.

World champion drag racer, Jeg Coughlin Jr, announced Saturday he’s stepping down from the circuit.

He says he won’t return to the Pro Stock division in 2011.

Coughlin Jr is one of the most prolific drivers in NHRA history, says CBS Sports.

The racer says he's quitting, to slow down the pace of his schedule.

Announcing his decision, he declared:

"My career has turned out better than I would have ever imagined. I feel so fortunate to have raced with the people I've raced with and to have won the races and championships we've won for the yellow and black.

“It's just been a phenomenal ride…and I kind of want to take a breath."
