It was established in 1949 as a private, for-profit Christian University. In 1949 GCU was founded as a non-profit liberal arts college, and it converted to for-profit status in 2004. Grand Canyon University is ranked 7th in the list of online colleges according to Online College Database. The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association accredits Grand Canyon University.
