Takashi Ono has ended the Japanese men's gold medal drought in judo at the Guangzhou Asian Games, beating Uzbekistan's Dilshod Choriev in the under-90 kilogram class.
Ono won the face-off Sunday by ippon when Choriev landed on his back.
So far, South Korea has been dominating the competition in the sport that is native to Japan.
The Koreans took three of four gold medals on offer Saturday, and notched another one Sunday when Hwang Ye Sul defeated Sol Kyong of North Korea in mere seconds in the women's under-70 kilogram class.
Until Ono's win, the only Japanese gold came from Mika Sugimoto, who won women's over-78 kilogram division.
